SHILLONG: Following incessant rain in the city since Thursday, a big tree got uprooted inside the premises of the Church near Don Bosco point on Saturday evening.
East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner, PS Dkhar said that there is no report of any injury due to the tree fall.
He said that tree fell within the premises of the Church and the main road which passes next to the Church was not been affected.
As the city has witnessed non-stop rain since few days, the District Administration has asked all the emergency services to be on standby.
Meanwhile, the Indian Metrological Department website has warned that heavy rain is very likely to occur at isolated places on Sunday over Assam and Meghalaya
On the other hand, there were plenty of cases of tree felling and road blockades in Tura as well
The locations where massive trees were uprooted due to the strong winds and heavy rain since last night include — Road near PWD North Division Office in Tura, Road leading to Upper Chandmari, Mission Compound Tura and Road leading to Cherangre near Tura Public School.
East Garo Hills Deputy Commissoner, Pravin Bakshi said that there was complete power shut down in Tura town as precautionary measures since many power transmission poles were tilting dangerously and necessary auditing were being conducted by MeECL. However, there was no report on any injury so far.
