SHILLONG: Though Shillong is a capital city but the street lighting in the city is far from being satisfactory and the stretch from Shillong Civil Hospital till Jhalupara taxi stand is one where there is hardly any street lights functioning.
In the entire stretch of 2 kilometers, only four major lights are functioning including two at Rhino point, one near ITBP headquarter and one in Rilbong point whereas the remaining is under thick darkness in the evening.
When contacted, officials from the Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited said that it is the Shillong Cantonment Board which usually provides all the required materials to the corporation for street lighting.
The official added that they would take up the matter with the Shillong Cantonment Board and the lights would be repaired.
