SHILLONG: National Secretary of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Scheduled Tribe Morcha, Hayithung Bill Lotha, has asserted that Narendra Modi government will not discontinue the reservation of Scheduled Tribe and Scheduled Castes.

He was reacting to Meghalaya’s Urban Affairs Minister and Congress leader Ronnie V Lyngdoh’s reported allegation that the BJP was out to deprive tribal by doing away with reservation.

Lotha said, “Lyngdoh has turned out to be the biggest liar with a criminal intention to instill and create disharmony amongst the peaceful fabric of scheduled castes and scheduled tribe communities.”

He added that the Modi government did not say anything on the discontinuation of Scheduled Tribe and Scheduled Castes reservation.

“The BJP party is supporting some of the communities to be inducted in the national SC and ST lists.  For instance, six communities of Assam have jointly sent a representation to the Central government which our BJP government is favorably examining the case for granting them Scheduled castes/Scheduled Tribe tag,” he added.

He said, “So you can infer how much sincere our BJP government is towards the tribal people in India. Reservation for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes reservation will continue forever while the BJP remains in power at the Centre.”
