SHILLONG: Launching an attack on the state government, the BJP has alleged that “total corruption is prevailing in Meghalaya” under the leadership of the Chief Minister, Mukul Sangma and stated that he was the most corrupt Chief Minister in India.
This was stated by National Secretary of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Scheduled Tribe Morcha, Hayithung Bill Lotha who told reporters that Sangma wad preceded by former Manipur CM, Okram Ibobi Singh who according to him featured in the list of most corrupt CMs.
“In the Context of North East politics, Congress has been ruling for the last four-five decades and totally destroyed the economic and social fabric of the North East and in the specific context of Meghalaya, unfortunately for the people of Meghalaya, Mukul Sangma is counted as the most corrupt Chief Minister in India,” he said.
He added that he is shock tolearn that even in the CM’s constituency of Ampati, the roads are replete with potholes with big cracks underneath the rocks even as he claimed that Ampati Constituency is receiving the maximum state resources and state funding and most of the state resources are diverted to Ampati.
“I want to question the Chief Minister- where has all the money vanished? The roads of Ampati has become like fishery where people can even fish besides the road,” he remarked.
“There is so much of corruption in the state. Taking into totality it is the degree of corruption in the state,” he said.
Furthermore, Lotha said that Sangma had turned out to be the “Grandmaster of false commitments and false promises,” as well as “Grandmaster of public announcements.”
He referred to the creation of three new districts on the eve of 2013 Assembly elections in which he alleged that the three new districts were not fully functional except the appointment of district magistrate’s office.
“These days he (Sangma) has a daily habit of going around entire Meghalaya announcing creation of new sub-divisions, creation of development blocks, new schools, new roads, new hospitals and toilets.
He is busy in laying foundation stones in the last six months. He has been sleeping in the past years,” he said.
Lotha also alleged that 7 Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) roads were sanctioned at an amount of Rs 100 crores but were not implemented in reality.
The 7 Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) roads are Mawlangsu sha Mawphanlur, Mawlangsu to Rambrai, Rambrai to Mawdoh, road connectivity from Nonglang Langpih, Nonglang to Seinduli road, another road from Rambrai to Kyrshai and Rambrai to Chaygoan road.
“On paper the project has been implemented but there is hardly any road visible. It is all like……. jungle (forest),” he said.
When asked to substantiate his claims on the 7 PMGYS which have not been implemented on the ground, he said, “Through RTI, we can procure it.”
“When it is brought to the notice of the central government, we will immediately start the enquiry, since it is a central project, even the CBI can be pressed into service,” Lotha said.
He went on to add that the scholarship of the students are delayed which affects the studies of the students.
Meanwhile, Lotha referred to the “rape case” that took place at a guest house (Marvelene Inn) and alleged that the state government is shielding the sitting MLA.
“If found guilty, the sitting MLA will go to jail,” he said.
The MLA in question is Home (Police) Minister HDR Lyngdoh in which the guest house, Marvelene Inn, belonging to his relatives, was mired in controversy over the rape of a minor.
