SHILLONG: Retired bureaucrat, HM Shangpliang will formally join Congress party on Thursday at Congress Bhavan with an aim to fight the 2018 Assembly polls.
The government has accepted the Voluntary Retirement of Shangpliang on October 23.
He will be welcomed by Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee president, DD Lapang, Congress functionaries from Mawsynram Block Congress Committee and Congress supporters in the evening.
Shangpliang is a Congress aspirant who is likely to contest the polls from Mawsynram and will face a tough fight against sitting MLA and suspended Congress member PN Syiem.
