TURA: On a day muster roll workers of the state’s Public Health Engineering Department throughout Garo Hills began their cease work demanding the implementation of their long standing dues, the agitation has not gone down well with the authorities of the department who have asked them to return to their work stations.
The PHE department in the Garo Hills has issued a stern warning to all its agitating muster roll workers that they must report to their duties without fail, immediately.
Officials of the department warned that stern action would be taken any worker failing to report to duty and they would be marked as absent and their daily wages deducted accordingly.
The additional chief engineer of PHE Zone-II, Tura has issued an advisory directing all the PHE officials to take necessary measures to end the protest by the muster roll workers.
The threat of action is unlikely to go down well with the hundreds of muster roll workers in the Garo Hills region who say they have been deprived of their dues for years altogether.
Muster roll workers are denied many government benefits even as they work for measly salaries each month in various departments of the state government. Only recently, the workers of the state power department have raised their voice against lack of benefits from the state.
