SHILLONG: A section of residents from Shella said it would be difficult to oust MLA Donkupar Roy with one of them even terming the constituency as “Roy’s den”.
“The sitting MLA will surely retain his position. Other parties cannot secure their ground in the constituency,” the resident told this reporter during a visit to the area.
Another resident opined that the UDP-HSPDP alliance had strengthened his position. “The people here usually look for regional parties,” he said. Shella constituency has a mixed population of Khasi and Garo communities whereas the border region is inhabited by Hajong, Assamese and other communities. Shella proper has a vote count of 3,000.
Other parties in the poll fray in the constituency include BJP, People’s Democratic Front, an Independent candidate, Congress and NPP.
