Training
One-day training in the use of EVMs with VVPATs was held on Tuesday. It was organised by the DC (Election) of West Khasi Hills. PD Sangma, Additional DC, was the master trainer. Nine VVPAT machines were allotted to the district for awareness among voters of Mairang, Mawthadraishan, Nongstoin, Rambrai Jyrngam and Mawshynrut. A training for booth level officers was also conducted.

On account of All Soul’s Day on November 2, arrangements have been made for entry of vehicles towards Catholic cemetery on the day. No vehicles will be allowed to enter towards the cemetery from 10 am to 5 pm, parking at the roadsides will not be allowed, parking will be in the compound of the office of district education Training, Nongrimmaw.

Awards
The Jamnanlal Bajaj Foundation seeks nominations for the 41st Jamnalal Bajaj Awards for 2018. There are three national awards and one international for Outstanding contribution in the field of constructive work in rural India, application of Science and Technology for Rural development, Development and welfare of Women and children. The international award will be for Promoting Gandhian values outside India which is presented to an individual holding a foreign passport and nationality.
Assam club
The Assam Club will observe the 6th death anniversary of Late Dr Bhupen Hazarika by conducting Bhupendra Sangeet competition at 10 am on November 5.

Debate competition
POWERGRID, Shillong conducted an inter-college debate competition at St. Mary’s College on Tuesday, as part of the Vigilance Awareness Week which is being observed since Monday. Ten colleges of city including NIT, NEIGRIMS among others participated in the competition; and Shillong Commerce College emerged as winners.

Outreach prog
The Academy Trust, Bengaluru will organise a science outreach programme for the students of classes 11 and 12 students at the St. Anthony’s Higher Secondary School on Wednesday. The programme is scheduled to start at 9 a.m. at Anton Hall of the School.

Science congress
The two-day state-level congress of the ‘25th National Children’s Science Congress-2017’ kick started at the Meghalaya Agriculture Management & Extension Training Institute, 5th Mile, Upper Shillong on Tuesday.
