SHILLONG: Governor Ganga Prasad has appreciated the contribution of the University of Science & Technology Meghalaya (USTM) to education in the state.
USTM Chancellor Mahbubul Hoque called on the new governor on Friday and welcomed him on behalf of the students and faculty of RIST and USTM, two educational institutions run by the ERD Foundation.
Prasad asked Hoque to explore the possibility of serving the interior areas of Meghalaya in a bigger way in the coming days.
Since the Governor also happens to be the former officio visitor to USTM, the Chancellor gave an update to him recalling the history of the institution, its various achievements over the years, as well as plans and programmes for the coming years.
In course of a discussion that followed, Hoque told the governor that about 4,700 students are pursuing various courses at RIST and USTM. Of them, 1,000-odd students are from Meghalaya.
