SHILLONG: NPP national president and Tura MP Conrad Sangma will release the first list of 32 candidates on Thursday at the party office here.
The party is planning to contest over 50 seats and the next list will be released later.
NPP state president WR Kharlukhi said on Tuesday that the party is gearing up to contest the upcoming polls and the release of the first list of candidates on Thursday is the right step in that direction.
While NPP will field candidates in 23 Assembly segments out of the total 24 seats in Garo Hills, the party has not revealed its plan for the remaining Ampati seat represented by Chief Minister Mukul Sangma.
NPP is jubilant about many legislators and MDCs joining the party.
As many as seven legislators had confirmed joining NPP while talks are on with several MDCs.
The party functionaries believe that with anti-incumbency against the ruling Congress, NPP would be able to make a difference this time compared to 2013 polls that reduced the number of winning candidates to just two.
