SHILLONG: The president of Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP), Ardent Basaiawmoit, has alleged that non-vegetarian food has been struck out from the menu at the food outlets in the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS), since the joining of the new Director, D M Thappa.
In a petition to the Union Health Minister, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Jagat Nadda, the Nongkrem MLA informed that he had received complaints from people about the inconveniences faced by them at NEIGRIHMS because of non-serving of non-vegetarian food.
He added that the party had sent a team to investigate into the matter and found some truth in it and termed it as an “unwarranted action” on the part of Thappa.
“This is an attack on the food habits of the indigenous people of North East and has not been taken in the good taste,” Basaiawmoit said.
Condemning this act, he urged the Union Health Minister to direct the institute authorities to restore the sale of non-vegetarian food at the food outlets at NEIGRIHMS.
