Govt-aided teachers oppose change to ad hoc
TURA: The Meghalaya Upper Primary School Teachers’ Association (MUPSTA) in Garo Hills has opposed the government’s decision to change government-aided schools into ad hoc. In a statement issued here on Tuesday, the association questioned the move and sought an explanation from the government on whether all ad hoc schools in the state be replaced by SSA schools. Reiterating its demand for equal pay for equal work, the association said the concept “has no significance for teachers in Meghalaya”. “Some of our demands which were discussed with government representatives have been pending since September 2016. But SSA teachers have been enjoying the same privileges since April 2016. How are government aided teachers inferior to SSA teachers that they are enjoying enhanced salary of different scale,” MUPSTA said and added that even in the U-DISE form, government-aided schools come under the ‘13-Adhoc’ section which is not correct. “This means that government aided schools have already been abolished. We oppose the category change without our knowledge. Government aided schools should be brought under the same category as before and not changed,” it demanded.
