NONGSTOIN: The newly formed People’s Democratic Front is having a rough ride before the Assembly elections with another leader quitting the party’s Nongstoin Zonal Committee on Tuesday to join the National people’s Party (NPP).
SH Kharrit, vice president of the PDF Nongstoin Zonal Committee, joined NPP along with the secretary of Nongkhlaw primary unit and his supporters. Kharrit was also the president of the Nongkhlaw unit.
Retired PWD chief engineer S. Nongkynrih recently quit PDF Mawthadraishan due to health issues.
Kharrit told the media that he had nothing to tell about PDF as the party was just 3 to 4-month-old. He said he did not have any particular reason to leave PDF except that he wanted to join NPP, which has a strong leader in the constituency. He added that the working policy of NPP is similar to that of Hoping Stone Lyngdoh. “We need to protect our traditions and customs and I believe that only NPP candidate Macmillan Byrsat can fulfil the dream of late Hoping Stone Lyngdoh,” said Kharrit.
“I have decided to join NPP to support Macmillan Byrsat as he was among the candidates who are fit to contest in the upcoming Assembly elections,” said Kharrit. The NPP Nongstoin welcomed the new members during a meeting held in Nongstoin on Tuesday.
