GUWAHATI: Another journalist has been slain in Tripura and this time by a man in uniform.  A senior journalist, Sudip Dutta Bhowmick, was shot dead by a jawan of Tripura State Rifles (TSR) in the headquarter of the 2nd battalion of the TSR at R K Nagar in Agartala at around 1.00 P.M. on Sunday when the journalist had gone on an assignment there.

Tripura Journalists’ Union has strongly condemned the dastardly killing of the journalist in cold blood by a man in uniform and demanded a judicial probe into the incident.

The slain journalist was a senior reporter of Agartala-based Bengali Daily, Chandan Patrika. The journalist fraternity has been shell-shocked by the tragic incident in the poll-bound Left Front-ruled state where police have resorted to heavy deployment in sensitive areas in the capital city.

The killing occurred exactly two months after killing of another young TV journalist, Santanu Bhowmick on September 20 last, by miscreants belonging to Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT). The Left Front government is yet to accept the scribes’ organisations demand for a CBI investigation into the killing of Santanu Bhowmick much to the chagrin of the community.
