Rape dominates POCSO cases in East Khasi Hills

SHILLONG: As many as 67 cases, mostly rape of minors, under the POCSO Act, in East Khasi Hills this year are still pending investigation.
Police said out of the 80 cases registered this year till September, 12 were charge-sheeted and one ended up as final report since probe could not establish the crime.
As per the crime data under the POCSO Act, out of the 80 cases, 50 are rape, three kidnapping and six molestation cases.
In 2016, out of 56 cases, 37 were charge-sheeted and the remaining are pending.
The category of cases under the POCSO in 2016 was rape (31), kidnapping (2), molestation (19) and immoral trafficking (4).
In 2015, 61 out of the total 67 cases were charge-sheeted and six are pending investigation.
The cases include rape (48), kidnapping (2) and molestation (17).
