Book dedicated to Tagore released
SHILLONG: Nirjhorini (The Brook), a book which includes 70 write-ups in 12 different languages, was released on Friday. Editor/Compiler of the book, Malabika Bisharad, said that writers have penned down prose and poetry in their mother tongue to inspire and inculcate the feeling of love and respect for one’s mother tongue. Speaking about the book, she said, “Some students have written in English and Hindi but most of the writings in the book is in their mother language.” “The students get to choose their own subject,” she said, adding that they want to inspire and encourage the thinking in students on what they feel about the modern changing world of technological advancements. The facsimile collection contains write ups from Meghalaya, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, West Bengal, America and Canada written in languages of Khasi, Jaintia, Garo, Sanskrit, Bengali, Telegu, Hindi, Philippines and English. Bisharad stated that the book is dedication to Nobel laureate, Rabindranath Tagore due to his literary contribution. She added that the facsimile collection was called Nirjhorini as the word was featured in one of his book, Shesher Kobita.
Child protection campaign launched
SHILLONG: The Reach Shillong Ministries in collaboration with the Office of the District Child Protection Office (DCPO), East Khasi Hills district, launched a city wide campaign under the theme ‘Children Good Treatment Campaign’. The programme was launched by M Kharkongor, Chairperson, Meghalaya State Commission for Protection of Child’s Right, on Friday at the office of the DCPO. The programme was attended by children from the Open Day Shelter of Reach Shillong Ministries, M Warjri, DCPO, among others. The Good Treatment Campaign will be a one year campaign programme and will culminate on the Children Day Celebration 2018 with an award for children who managed to collect a number of promise signatures.
Agri dept clarifies on bond issue
SHILLONG: The Agriculture department has said that it had not disrespected bond signed by students. In a statement on Friday, the department clarified that it invites application from eligible candidates for consideration of nomination for B.Sc (Agriculture) and B.Sc (Horticulture) courses based on admission notice duly published in newspapers. It further informed that since 2014-15, the necessity for bond agreement of nominated students was done away with. The statement also clarified that as per the terms and conditions of the admission notice from the year 2004-05 till 2017-18, it is mentioned that the government does not ‘guarantee’ any appointment under the department on completion of the course of study.
