TURA: BJP national spokesperson and Meghalaya in-charge, Nalin Kohli has questioned the logic behind protests stating that the central government’s unique identity card will lay the foundation for a new and clean India that gets rid of ghost beneficiaries.”Aadhaar is a mechanism for a more transparent society. It will help wipe away ghost beneficiaries and remove duplicacy like, for example, people having two-three PAN cards to avoid income tax. NGOs are always calling for more transparency, so I can’t see what’s the logic behind the protests?” questioned Kohli on the sidelines of a party convention for BJP booth-level workers in New Tura field on Saturday afternoon.Kohli’s reaction came in the wake of opposition to the implementation of Aadhaar by a group of student and social organisations in Garo Hills.Attacking those opposed to GST and demonetisation move by the Modi government a year ago, the BJP leader said, “The entire opposition to demonetisation has come from those who fought in favour of black money.”He said the biggest challenge to the demonetisation exercise came during the Uttar Pradesh polls.”The Congress said we would be wiped out in UP because of the demonetisation but instead we broke all records in the history of independent India by winning the largest share of votes and seats, post demonetisation,” Kohli said.On GST, the BJP leader said the government was welcoming feedback from the people and experts and the GST Council was taking unanimous decisions in the interest of the country. Assembly elections…
Kohli said “BJP would contest if not all then close to 60.” “An exercise of surveys is taking place which is in its final stage and we have received some very satisfying inputs from many constituencies. We will announce the candidates’ names when the time comes. Right now, elections are yet to be announced,” said Kohli.
AOL arrest
On the recent arrest of a BJP executive member from Meghalaya who happened to be part of the Art of Living organisation during his attempt to cross the international border into Bangladesh to meet HNLC leaders, Kohli clarified that it was not on behalf of the party.
“The Art of Living is not the BJP. He did not have any authorisation from the party. If he went as an individual I cannot comment but we will seek his explanation once he comes out of jail,” Kohli said.
