SHILLONG: The BJP has stopped distribution of LPG cylinders at inflated rate in the city on Saturday.
The action of BJP and BJYM was following the sale of LPG cylinders by the state -sponsored Meghalaya State Co-Operative Marketing & Consumer Federation Ltd (Mecofed) at Nongrah under Nongthymmai constituency at Rs 2015 each.
What irked the BJP was that the cylinders were to be distributed free of cost or at a minimal affordable and subsidised rate for the poor under the central scheme of Pradhan Mantri Ujjawala Yojana initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
In a statement, Sonny L Khyriem, spokesperson, BJP Shillong City District Committee, said that the timely action led by Nongthymmai BJP Mandal President Barikupar Sawkmie and his team including the local residents stopped the misdeed of the state government agency
“We will take up the matter with the competent authority and court of law if needed,” Khyriem said.
The BJP Shillong City District Committee demanded a response from Mecofed in this regard.
