Cyclothon held to fight pollution

SHILLONG: A 5-km cyclothon from Peak Service Station, Dhankheti, was held on Sunday.
Organised by Petroleum Conservation Research Association (PCRA) under the guidance of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, the state government and the oil industry, the cyclothon was flagged off by Abhishek Bhagotia, state commissioner of taxes and president of Cycling Shillong.
Those who attended the event included B Mawlong, labour commissioner, Jazcinth Prudence Leeywait, vice president of Cycling Shillong, PC Deka, principal of Tamulkutchi High School in Byrnihat, and SS Thangkhiew, state level coordinator for oil industry and chief manager (retail sales), Guwahati Integrated Divisional Office, IOC Ltd, among others.
Bhagotia highlighted the need for use of cycles in day-to-day activities for the betterment of the environment and also for the physical fitness.
He thanked the oil marketing companies for organising this event and wished them all the success in their future endeavour.
SS Thangkhiew highlighted Prime Minister’s vision about having one day in a week without use of petrol and diesel and the cyclothan is the first step in that direction. He also informed that similar activities are going on throughout the country.
A pledge was taken by all present to conserve petroleum products in all spheres of activities.
