TURA: Villagers inhabiting an area through which a crucial road is being constructed to connect Rongjeng in East Garo Hills to Adokgre in North Garo Hills via Mangsang village have written a strong complaint to the PWD’s additional chief engineer in charge of Garo Hills expressing concern over the poor quality of construction and black topping of the Chigranggre-Ildek Akong stretch of the road.
The villagers, under the aegis of the Jinba Area Development Committee, pointed out that the contractor engaged in construction of the road had produced a poor quality road from Matchadu village to Ildek Akong.
They revealed that prior to this year’s monsoon rains, the contractor had constructed the metalling and carpeting of the stretch with just a single metal coating causing it to break apart during the rainy season.
“Once again the contractor is trying to reconstruct the stretch of the road from the same point where the damage occurred by giving a single metal coating which everyone knows will not last even for a few months. We have waited for a proper road construction for 25 long years and we surely deserve better,” stated the villagers.
They have also criticised the local MLA who was until recently the parliamentary secretary assigned with assisting the PWD minister to improve the roads and bridges in the state. They have accused the legislator of allowing the contractor to continue with his poor road construction at the expense of the villagers who have to use the damaged road every day.
