SHILLONG:  BJP Senior leader Nalin Kohli on Saturday dismissed the   speculations that the saffron party is behind the   reported move of the   Opposition parties to move No Confidence Motion against the State Government in the upcoming winter session of the state Assembly scheduled to begin from December 8.

Talking to journalists here, Kohli asserted that he was not aware of any such instruction from the BJP for the National People’s Party (NPP) to move a No Confidence Motion against the government.

Kohli pointed out that BJP and NPP were in coalition at the Centre as well as in Manipur but in Meghalaya, BJP was contesting the elections separately.

Slamming the Congress party, he said that the decision of the senior Congress leaders not to contest the election amounted to no confidence on Congress-led government in the state.

“I don’t see wave for any party here in Meghalaya, but there is discernible one that is going to ensure that Congress will not return to power,” he said.

When asked if BJP was finding it tough to find faces in Meghalaya, Kohli said that it was the party’s   parliamentary wing that decided on who should be taken into party’s fold.

Asserting that the party even has young promising leaders in the state who have not contested the elections, Kohli, however, said that it was the Election Committee which decided as who should contest the election.

On being asked about political leaders joining the BJP, he said for those who want to see Congress out of power and believe in the agenda of sab ka saath, sab ka vikas, there was only one party, that is the BJP.

Responding to a query about BJP leaders meeting Church leaders in the state and Government recent withdrawal of notification on cow slaughter, Kohli said meeting Church leaders could not be termed communal since the BJP leaders were not discussing politics with them but rather other   developmental issues since Church organisations here were involved in developmental works like managing schools and nursing institutions.

“The ban on cow slaughter is an outcome of Supreme Court order   under prevention of currently to animal Act   brought by the Congress and BJP does not say what people   should eat or wear,” he said.

Meanwhile, the BJP leader also defended Himanta Biswa Sarma who has corruption charges in the Louis Berger corruption scandal saying as per the constitution, a person is innocent until proven guilty

“I will not hold guilt against anybody unless there is court order based on evidence,” he added.

On being asked about Chief Minister, Mukul Sangma hailing Rahul Gandhi who is all set to become the president of the Congress, he said that a Congressman recently alleged that the entire process of election in Congress is rigged and it has become   family run enterprise.
