SHILLONG: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to visit Shillong on December 16.
State BJP president Shibun Lyngdoh said the party is awaiting confirmation from the Prime Minister’s Office.
“We are yet to receive any confirmation though the visit was supposed to be either on December 15 or 16,” Lyngdoh said and hinted that Modi may be visiting for a government programme.
However, both Chief Secretary Y. Tsering and DGP SB Singh said they have not received any information about the visit.
When contacted, BJP central leader Nalin Kohli said the Prime Minister was likely to visit Meghalaya.
Kohli added that he just returned to Delhi on Sunday from Shillong and hence he did not have much to say.
Earlier, Home Minister Rajnath Singh was to address booth-level BJP workers covering 29 Assembly constituencies of East Khasi Hills, Ri Bhoi, West Khasi Hills and Shillong City during his proposed visit on December 7, besides inaugurating the party office.
However, sources said the Home Minister’s visit was cancelled to pave way for the visit of the Prime Minister which would boost the party ahead of the polls.
Besides, the party is expected to rope in at least five MLAs led by Congress legislator AL Hek.
