SHILLONG: Congress president Sonia Gandhi has accepted veteran politician DD Lapang’s decision not to contest the 2018 polls.
In a statement issued on Sunday, Lapang said during his meeting with Gandhi last Friday, he conveyed his decision not to contest the polls due to ill health.
“She accepted my decision. She wished me well and said as far as possible I should continue to make the party united and share my experience and advisory values with party leaders,” Lapang said.
Lapang had also met CP Joshi, AICC in charge of Meghalaya, and other AICC leaders and discussed about the election of Rahul Gandhi as the president of the party.
The Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee president and Chief Minister Mukul Sangma will be in Delhi on December 4 and 5 for the election.
