SHILLONG: NPP leader and sitting MLA of Songsak, Nihim Shira has downplayed the challenge from Chief Minster, Mukul Sangma who is in all likely to contest the upcoming Assembly election from Ampati as well as Songsak constituency.
Speaking to media persons on the sidelines of the UDP leader, SD Ramsiej joining NPP here on Tuesday, Nihim Shira said that Mukul Sangma, if he contests, would not be a threat for him.
“There is no threat as I am the son of the soil,” he said even as adding that the constituency has suffered for the past 40 years for being represented by MLAs from outside.
“But myself being the first son of the soil to become an MLA in the constituency, people still love and support me,” he said, adding anybody can come and compete against him in Songsak.
Responding to queries, he said NPP will have massive impact even in Garo Hills and they would win not less than 15 seats in Garo Hills.
“If we get 15 from Garo Hills and 19-20 from Khasi Hills region, we will be the single largest party and form the new Government here,” he said.
On the other hand, SD Ramsiej said that he left the UDP after he had been denied a ticket by the UDP even though the party had cleared his name in the first list.
He alleged that Mangkara Pathaw joined UPD on November 14 and the State Election Committee approved his name on November 22 which made his supporters dejected
He also claimed that people in Umroi will vote for NPP though it is a new party since people knows which party they should vote.
