Thousands attend funeral of Manirul Islam Sarkar

TURA: Thousands of supporters attended the funeral of their leader and former Phulbari MLA, Manirul Islam Sarkar, at his village of Chibinang on Monday which was attended by a host of senior NPP leaders including former Rajya Sabha MP, Thomas Sangma, NPP legislator from Dadenggre, James K Sangma, NPP party members, FCA Sangma, Simjeng Sangma amongst others. Congress MLA and Meghalaya Assembly Speaker A T Mondol also attended the funeral service of Late Sarkar.

Late Sarkar was a front runner in the upcoming election  for Phulbari Assembly constituency and was to be pitted against A T Mondol by the NPP which he has helped strengthen in the plains belt region since 2014. He died of a cardiac arrest in Guwahati on Sunday while recuperating from a heart angioplasty surgery conducted at Apollo hospital in Chennai, some days before.
