SHILLONG: The youth wing of the Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) has blamed the Public Works Department for its lopsided road development measures which focus more on Garo Hills.
President Thomas Passah said the department was biased and flagged the latest tender notification to prove his point. He claimed that some areas have been given more importance.
“The tender notified shows crores of rupees for repair/construction of roads located in Garo Hills where else less emphasis is given on roads in other regions,” he said.
He expressed surprise that no amount has been allocated for repair/construction of Wahkaji-Mawthabah road in South West Khasi Hills though the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council promised to provide fund.
Terming it as biased and unjustified, the youth wing, in a memorandum to the chief engineer of PWD (Roads), stated that the government has turned a blind eye to road development in Khasi Hills, Jaintia Hills and Ri-Bhoi districts.
Passah said the state government should ensure equal distribution of developmental projects, especially roads, to achieve overall development.
