SHILLONG: With just two months to go for the Assembly polls, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address a public gathering on December 16 at Polo Grounds, setting in motion BJP’s election campaign.
BJP state president Shibun Lyngdoh said on Wednesday that the BJP’s organisational headquarters in New Delhi has confirmed Modi’s visit.
“We have been asked to prepare for the visit of Prime Minister on December 16 by the BJP central office, but the confirmation from the PMO is yet to come,” Lyngdoh said.
The Prime Minister’s visit is party related and as per the itinerary, Modi will inaugurate the new state party office near the official residence of Chief Minister Mukul Sangma followed by his address at Polo Grounds.
The details of the programme are yet to be worked out, Lyngdoh said.
Earlier, the party’s national president Amit Shah or Home Minister Rajnath Singh was to open the party office and address booth-level karyakarta sammelan comprising 29 constituencies of East Khasi Hills, Shillong City, West Khasi Hills, South West Khasi Hills and Ri Bhoi.
However, the booth-level karyakarta sammelan has been postponed and instead the Prime Minister will address the public rally.
Lyngdoh also said the party is looking at whether the joining of some MLAs to the party can be facilitated on December 16 morning prior to the scheduled programme of the Prime Minister.
