SHILLONG: Meghalaya Legislative Assembly Speaker, AT Mondal on Thursday said that moving a resolution against the Speaker had nothing to do with the collapse of the government.
Responding to queries of journalists here on Thursday, Mondal said that resolution for the removal of the Speaker was moved sometime even by the ruling party.
Asserting that he has admitted similar two resolutions for removal of the Speaker by the Opposition, Mondal said that he would look at the merit of the resolution before taking a call on the new resolution which has been moved by NPP leader James Sangma for his removal
Mondal recalled that he had even admitted a no confidence motion against the Chief Minister which was deliberated in the House
“Speaker is nothing but a referee inside the House,” he said.
Mondal also maintained that the provisions of 10th Schedule would continue to stand even if he was removed as the Speaker.
It is largely speculated that the rebel members from the ruling coalition would shift to other side if the resolution moved for the removal of the Speaker yields any positive result for the Opposition bench.
