SHILLONG: The KSU, which observed the 23rd death anniversary of its leader Bull N Lyngdoh on Thursday, vowed to continue its fight against the railway project in Meghalaya.
Speaking on the occasion, KSU president Lambok Marngar reiterated the union’s stand against illegal immigrants, especially their enrolment in the electoral rolls in the state, and urged political parties to refrain from cajoling illegal immigrants to gain votes in the upcoming polls.
The KSU members had gathered in front of the bust of the leader in Dhankheti to pay tribute to Lyngdoh who died in 1994.
Present leaders and relatives of Lyngdoh recalled the unrelenting nature of the late leader in opposing the influx of illegal immigrants in the early eighties.
Referring to the 32 KSU members who were arrested for cases of arson during protests against the railway project in Ri Bhoi and later released, Marngar said, “The fight against the railway project in the state that was once led by him (Lyngdoh) will continue. As a union, we will not bow down.”
The KSU chief added that allowing railways in the state would be a bane for the people without the existence of proper mechanism to protect the indigenous populace.
“We will strive hard but we are not troublemakers. Back in 1989, the same leader (Lyngdoh) opposed the railway project and was arrested and taken to Silchar,” Marngar said.
According to him, the jail should be the site of inspiration for KSU members and he puts it as “come what may, KSU will keep rolling out its work.”
