Tourist drowns in EKH
SHILLONG: A youth, Atul Ravi Khalkho (24) hailing from Chattisgarh, who could not swim drowned at Rainbow falls at Nongriat, East Khasi Hills on December 7.
He was part of a five member team that visited the tourist spot.

Vehicle stolen
SHILLONG: Franklin Laloo lodged a complaint that on December 5 night, miscreants stole his Bolero (ML-04B-3585) from Chiehruphi village, East Jaintia Hills.

Farmers sensitised about soil health in Ri Bhoi
SHILLONG: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Ri-Bhoi, in collaboration with Natural Resources Management (NRM) Division, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Umiam, had recently celebrated the World Soil Day at Dr MS Swaminathan Auditorium, ICAR. Welcoming the delegates Dr M Mokidul Islam, Senior Scientist and Head of KVK, cited the objectives and theme of World Soil Day, “Caring for the Planet Starts from the Ground”.Celestine Lyngdoh, Minister of Printing and Stationary and PHE Department, attended the programme as chief guest.

Blood donation camp organised
SHILLONG: A blood donation camp was jointly organised by Hotel Majestic and Joint Committee International Shillong Pine City on Sunday. The camp was carried out under the supervision of Blood Bank NEIGRIHMS and State Blood Transfusion Council.  Former Health Minister A L Hek was present at the camp and motivated the first time donors and stressed on the need of blood donation as there is a huge deficiency in the supply and demand in Meghalaya. In total 62 units of blood were conducted.Director of NEIGRIHMS paid a visit to the camp and was happy with the arrangements.

Garo music workshop concludes
TURA: The week-long workshop on A’chik Traditional Musical Instruments at Don Bosco Higher Secondary School concluded on Friday with a valedictory function. Skylance G Momin, the president of the Nokma Council, said there are more than 30 varieties of A’chik drum beats. He encouraged the participants to do further research on the traditional music and dance and go deeper into their traditional culture and knowledge systems. The workshop was organised by the A’chik Literature Society.
