Dimchrang Festival to kick off at Ampati on Friday

TURA: The Dimchrang Winter Festival, which is being held annually at Ampati in South West Garo Hills will begin on Friday with a colourful cultural programme  and various sporting activities.

The Ampati Arts and Cultural Society is organising various events to engage the talented youths of the region and the festival will serve as a platform to showcase their hidden traits.

South West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, C V D Diengdoh informed that competitions like indigenous games and sports, folk music and others were being organised for the purpose of engaging the youths.

“William Initiative, a Tura-based organisation has been entrusted to conduct different events and put up entertainment programmes and rock concerts to enthral the audience in the festive season,” he informed.

On December 15, Indian Idol fame Amit Paul will perform at Students’ Field Ampati. Popular illusionist, Amazing David from Kolkatta will also perform a magic show on the day. Both the artistes are already in Ampati for the show and are very excited to perform.

“It is a great honour that I am getting the privilege to perform at Ampati and I thank the people of Garo hills for their love to me as always. I am indebted to the people of Garo hills for their continued moral support during Indian idol and thereafter. I request all the people to come and be part of the show”, said singer Amit Paul.

The festival will come to the close on December 16 with a rock show by popular Indian band, ‘Spunk’, which will perform along with other local bands like Safe and Sound, Notes of Arronga, Haystack Ladies and Assam based band ‘Gravity.
