SHILLONG: Though the dual post Bill has been made operational, it will not prevent existing MDCs from contesting the Assembly polls in 2018.
The issue figured in the Assembly during the question hour on Wednesday.
Chief minister Mukul Sangma in a reply to a question by KP Pangniang (HSPDP) in the Assembly on Wednesday said the Prevention of Disqualification (Members of the Legislative Assembly of Meghalaya) Amendment Bill, 2015 has been accorded approval by the Governor and the Bill has been made operational.
However, the chief minister answered in the negative to a question as to whether the Bill would prevent “the existing MDCs who have the intention to contest the election in 2018”.
