DC ban order on gambling violated

NONGSTOIN: Police on Thursday raided the Mega Enterprise Mini Mela here after the organisers were found violating the district administration’s order by allowing games akin to gambling.
In the order issued by the deputy commissioner of West Khasi Hills dated December 1, 2017, it was clearly mentioned that “There should be no gambling in any form in the Mini Mela.”
But it was found that those organisers violated the order. Some concerned women complained that their husbands had lost lakhs of rupees in gambling thereby putting their family finances in huge risk.
Based on the complaint, the Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) Nongstoin circle made a follow up following the order issued by the deputy commissioner and found more than eight stalls in the mini mela where the games were played in violation of the order.
The HYC today launched an FIR against the organisers for violating the order of the DC (No.NDC.8/96/2010/Pt-VIIi/186) and also the Meghalaya Prevention of Gambling Act, 1970.
Nongstoin police after receiving the FIR from HYC conducted a raid warning the organisers to stop allowing gambling in the mela or face arrest.
