SHILLONG: The Congress is yet to call the meeting of its election committee to finalise the names of candidates.

The MPCC general secretary in-charge elections, Polycarp Marak, said on Sunday the shortlist is ready since November 22 after the submission of
names of ticket aspirants by the district committees as forwarded by the block committees.
“I am ready with the list as per the order of preference with remarks and now the election committee has to meet and finalise the candidates,” Marak said.
According to Marak, the MPCC president and the chief minister are in Delhi for the appointment of Rahul Gandhi as the party president and hence the election committee meeting may be delayed. The party had earlier planned to finalise the names by November end. After the nod from the election committee, the lists will be sent to AICC for final approval.Party sources said it is unlikely that the party will finalise the names before Christmas.
Except the Congress and BJP, other political parties in the state have released the names of several candidates.
