SHILLONG: Christmas is a time when near and dear ones get together to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ but there are other segments of population as well who continue to perform their duties away from the festive season.
While most of the people would spend their Christmas and the New Year with their near and dear ones at home, there are many other engaged in essential services like – Traffic personnel, police officers, nurses, people working with emergency services like 108 ambulance service, fire service who would discharge their duties despite the festive season.
Making a clarion call to everyone to celebrate Christmas together in the best spirit, PWD Minister, Ampareen Lyngdoh has urged the heads of the department to segregate workers based on their faith and make a special effort to allow them especially Christians to be at home with their family during Christmas.
Talking to media persons here on Tuesday, Lyngdoh said that it is challenge for people to be in essential services who hardly get a chance to be with their families.
She even urged people working in essential services to make a special request to the heads of their department to be at home during the Christmas even as she added that the services of the people in essential services would be appreciated by one and all.
