Local traders to purchase potatoes from UP
SHILLONG: The Director of Horticulture has informed that a memorandum of Understanding was signed between the potato growers of Uttar Pradesh and Trader of Mawiong Wholesale Regulated Market facilitated by the UP State Horticulture Cooperative Marketing Federation and the Directorate of Horticulture. She said that the federation will buy around 20000 mt of potatoes from potato growers of UP, adding that there is no discussion to import potatoes from Shillong to Uttar Pradesh.
Fire engulfs two houses in EKH
SHILLONG: Two cases of fire were reported in the East Khasi Hills district in the last couple of days. On December 17 around 1.50 am, a fire broke out in the house of Phima Kharkongor at Laitkor Rngi Dong Sohiong. As a result, the house was completely gutted and property worth Rs. 1,50,000 was destroyed. Meanwhile, the house of Kitboklang Nongrum at Laitkor Rngi was partially consumed by fire on December 16.
EKH parish to hold musical event for school repair
SHILLONG: The Parish U Khrist Jingshai Marbisu in East Khasi Hills will organise ‘Livewire for Peace’ on December 30 bringing together dancers and musicians from all parts of the state on one platform. Livewire for Peace will help gather funds for upgrading Lam Jingshai Secondary School in Sohiong to higher secondary. The programme also aims to unite politicians of the area so as to create an atmosphere of peace and mutual respect even during elections. Audition will be held on December 20 and 22 at St Paul’s Higher Secondary School Hall from 10 am onwards. The registration fee is Rs 500 for groups and Rs 300 for solo dancers. The programme will start at 12 noon with dancing competition to be followed by musical evening. Shillong MP Vincent Pala will be the chief guest.
Headmen laud CM on VAB, MUDA meet
SHILLONG: The Synjuk ki Nongsynshar Shnong ka Bri u Hynniewtrep (SNSBH) has expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Mukul Sangma for allowing the SNSBH to be the mediator between the CEM KHADC PN Syiem and the state government. The meeting held recently helped to iron out the issues related to VAB and MUDA building bye laws. In this connection, the SNSBH has extended Christmas greetings to the chief minister, cabinet minister, CEM and MDCs.
Call for child rights protection at pre-Xmas function
NONGPOH/JOWAI: Thomas Roy Malai, Director of Nongpoh Child Line, said protecting children’s rights should be the primary duty. Speaking at a pre-Christmas celebration at Mawtnum in Ri Bhoi organised by Child Line, Malai informed about the services rendered by Child Line for the protection of children, especially the homeless, who need a special care and protection. He said the idea behind the celebration was to show the spirit of solidarity and share the joys of Christmas with underprivileged children. Hundreds of children from the locality participated in the celebration. Child Line distributed blankets. Others who attended the celebration were Child Line Coordinator, Rosalin Kharbani, local headmen and the parents. The celebration was presided over by the staff member of child line, Nishan Maring.
Advance Christmas
In Jowai, the Meghalaya Bharat Scouts and Guides organised an Advance Christmas programme on Monday evening in which the district commissioner (guide) was the chief guest. The celebration included various activities performed by the scouts and guides.
The Pianist Season 3 to be held in February
SHILLONG: The Casio India Co. Pvt.
