SHILLONG: Expressing confidence that the National People’s Party (NPP) will lead the next government in the state, former president of Federation Khasi Jaintia Garo People’s, Sounder Cajee has formally joined the National People’s Party (NPP) on Wednesday.
As the state prepares for the forthcoming Assembly polls to be held early next year, Cajee expressed hope that the NPP ticket for the South Shillong constituency would be given to him to enable him to work for the betterment of the society as whole.
Terming the day as a “great day” for him, he said that the supporters and leaders of different booths decided to rethink and to review his membership in the BJP.
It was later decided that he should join the NPP and subsequently tendered his resignation to the state BJP president, Shibun Lyngdoh on November 7. He had joined the BJP in the month of May in the presence of BJP national spokesperson, Nalin Kohli.
Speaking to reporters, Cajee said, “NPP will lead the government and my supporters asked me to join the political party so that I will be guided by veteran leaders of the NPP.”
Commenting on the BJP party, he said that the ticket allotment from the BJP has not been announced which makes it difficult for him to prepare for the polls and appreciated the NPP for giving out forms at the earliest and to declare candidates for the polls.
Meanwhile, Kharlukhi said that the mood of the people was in favour of the NPP. “We will not let the people down,” he said, adding that state is waiting for an NPP wave.
Asked on the allegations that the NPP and BJP are working together, he asserted that it was only poll-time propaganda of the political rivals.
