SHILLONG: Urban Affairs Minister, and Congress spokesperson, Ronnie V Lyngdoh has slammed the KHADC CEM, PN Syiem over his statements that they (the PDF) would make laws to unite the “Jaidbynriew” (communities).

Speaking at a programme to launch the Chief Minister’s Housing Assistance Programme (CMHAP) at Mylliem here on Thursday, Ronnie said, “I don’t think, we (Congress led government) have made any such laws to divide people and what does he mean by such statement.”

Ronnie asserted that the government had launched the scheme not to divide people but to help the less privileged in the society.

Lyngdoh said that the Government had exempted the implementation of building bye laws from areas outside the municipality areas and the move was not to divide people.

“The laws which we have made are not for dividing people but for their development and uplift,” he said.

Lyngdoh also said that the Government took some time regarding the matter as they it had to go through the Town and Country planning Act in detail, adding that the Government respects the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution.

Lyngdoh even castigated some political parties for claiming that   he was putting many areas in Mylliem under MUDA terming such statements as false and politically-motivated

He also substantiated his statement by saying that   many areas under Mylliem like Umlyngka, Lawsohtun and   even Lummawbah will now have their own gram sevak circles which is an indication that there is no such move to include these areas under MUDA.

Earlier, Pynthorumkhrah MLA, AL Hek who was also present on the occasion lauded the initiative of the Government.

Under the scheme, three bundles of aluminum roofing sheets will be provided to 27766 beneficiaries in the state.
