SHILLONG: The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has informed the Meghalaya High Court that the repair of the Umsning Town Road will be completed before December 25.
In a report submitted by the NHAI, it was mentioned that only about 300 metres of the bad patch of Umsning Town Road remained to be rectified and the work, which is on full swing, is likely to be completed by the end of this month.
During the course of submissions, the Government Advocate submitted that two work orders have been issued for the Shillong-Barapani road dividing the main road into two parts; and the work is expected to be completed within one year.
The Court, however, said that the very proposition of such excessive time of one whole year for the work gives rise to serious questions over the approach of the officers of the Government dealing with the project in question.
The Chief Secretary, who was also present in the Court, was urged to look into the matter and to issue appropriate instructions so as to ensure the completion of work at the earliest and in priority.
“It is expected of the State Government that the bad patches on the road in question are rectified at the earliest and, in any case, before the matter is taken up on the next date,” said the Court.
Amicus Curiae S Panthi is expected to visit the site during the third week of January next year and to make a report on the construction of project.
