MPUF to move JHADC over ‘illegal trade’ by non-tribals
SHILLONG: The Meghalaya People’s United Front has decided to lodge a complaint with the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council against non-tribals running businesses in East Jaintia Hills allegedly without valid documents.
In a statement issued here, MPUF expressed concern over 12-wheeler coal laden trucks, allegedly owned by non-tribals, plying on the road in East Jaintia Hills.
The MPUF however said non-tribals were free to do trade here and there were no restrictions imposed on them even by the JHADC or East Jaintia Hills district administration.
Sadar PS organises pre-Xmas event for needy families
SHILLONG: Shillong Sadar police station recently organised a pre-Christmas programme where gifts were distributed among 26 needy families from the city.
East Khasi Hills superintendent of police, Davis Marak attended the programme.
This was the third edition of such a programme by Sadar police station. The practice was initiated by Inspector DK Prasad since 2015.
Sadar police station has been successfully handling matters related to improving the police-community relationship.
Speaking on the occasion, Marak stated that Sadar Police Station had come up with the idea of assisting the needy not only in areas under its jurisdiction but to areas as far as Nongpoh.
He lauded the efforts of the officer in-charge, Sadar police station and his team of officers for the gesture.
Father Jose of Sacred Heart’s Theological College, spoke on the theme of Christmas and prayed for the police personnel and the families present.
Escape to Umtyngar on Dec 30
SHILLONG: After the success of the first edition of ‘Escape to Mawkdok’ with MC Brother Culture in 2013, Rockski Group will organise an ‘escape’ event and this time, it will be held at the picturesque venue of the Bharat Scouts and Guides Training Centre at Umtyngar.
‘Escape to Umtyngar’ will be a fundraiser for the Malki Sports Club.

PA’s sister blesses Agatha’s rival
SHILLONG: Teressa A Sangma, the elder sister of late Tura MP PA Sangma, on Wednesday observed her 84th birthday.
She blessed her grand daughter-in-law Anamika JG Momin, a Congress ticket aspirant, and expressed hope for her victory in the upcoming Assembly polls from South Tura constituency against Agatha Sangma.
Teressa and Anamika have been working together in the political arena over the last few years.
