NGT asks service providers to fit sound limiters on audio systems
Shillong: The Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills District has informed that the National Green Tribunal, Eastern Zone Bench, Kolkata has issued instructions to all service providers letting out audio systems to fit the systems with sound limiters in order to limit sound to the permissible decibel.
Audio systems should also be subjected to inspection by law enforcement authorities and the State Pollution Control Board as per law.
Licences for letting out the audio systems shall come with an additional condition that no audio system shall be let out without being fitted with a sound limiter and the condition for use of sound limiter shall be applicable for all government and political functions as well as shops dealing with the sale of public audio systems.

Intensified Mission Indradhanush from Jan 9
Shillong: The fourth round of the Intensified Mission Indradhanush in Meghalaya will be launched by Meghalaya Governor Ganga Prasad at Ganesh Das Hospital on January 9.
Aiming to focus on areas with low immunisation coverage, the fourth round of the mission will commence from January 9 for a week in East Khasi Hills, East Jaintia Hills, West Jaintia Hills, South West Khasi Hills, North Garo Hills, West Garo Hills, South West Garo Hills and in urban areas of West Khasi Hills.
Mission Indradhanush was envisaged and implemented in 2015 to rapidly increase the full immunization coverage to 90 per cent.
The National Health Mission and State Health Department, Meghalaya has urged all parents of children within two years of age along with pregnant women to come forward and avail the services.

Khonjoy PHC inaugurated

MAWKYRWAT: PWD minister and local MLA M.M Danggo inaugurated the primary health centre at Khonjoy in South West Khasi Hills district on Friday.
Additional deputy commissioner of South West Khasi Hills District, HS Diengdoh and district medical and health officer M. Marbaniang among other officers from the district were present on the occasion.
Addressing the gathering, Danggo lauded the officials from the health department for their hard work and efforts in fulfilling the dreams and aspirations of the people.
S.D Shira from the Border Areas Headmen Association, M. Marbaniang, the district medical and health officer, South West Khasi Hills, C. Momin. health officer of Ranikor CHC, also spoke during the programme.

3 die in road mishaps

SHILLONG: Three people have died in separate road accidents in the state in the last couple of days.
On January 3 at about 4 pm, one truck driven by Habas Wahlang, fell into a gorge at Domshohksoin village in West Khasi Hills. As a result, the driver died on the spot, while two occupants sustained injuries and were admitted to Civil Hospital Nongstoin. Necessary formalities have been observed and the cadaver was sent for post mortem.
Earlier, on January 1, a Tata Sumo (ML-11-0573) collided with a Toyota Fortuner (ML-04B-2555) at Jalaphet, Bri-Sumer in East Jaintia Hills at 7 pm wherein Supply Bareh of Jalaphet village died.
Earlier around 3 am on December 31, 2017, one truck (AS-01DD-1558) driven by Md. Sufain Ahmed met with an accident at Wahblang, Kuliang in East Jaintia Hills. As a result, handyman of the truck, Rahul Islam died on the spot.
