SHILLONG: Former MLA Sanbor Shullai has filed a counter FIR against social activists Agnes Kharshiing and Angela Rangad for lodging a complaint against him for alleged nepotism in the appointment of various posts in the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly.
In the FIR lodged with Sadar police station on Saturday, the former deputy speaker said the employees were recruited following rules and he had no role to play in the selection process”Hence, the policy to question only the appointment of my near and dear ones is highly vindictive. Furthermore, I am not the appointing authority to any post in the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly. However, a false FIR was filed against me with the propaganda to demoralise the people of my constituency in casting their votes in my favour,” Shullai said.
According to the FIR, Kharshiing and Rangad were malicious and had resorted to a pick-and-choose policy.
“It is surprising that they have sought RTI from the office of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly and chose to ignore other departments and if their intention is to uphold the procedure and method of recruitment why have RTI and FIR also not been filed in all departments of the state,” he said.
Shullai said the allegations are nothing but mere political conspiracy.
The former MLA said both Kharshiing and Rangad are utilising the Police Department as a podium for monetary benefits.
The FIR also pointed out that the complaint by the duo who has nexus with political parties was to enable other parties or opponents to take political mileage.
“They have chosen to file the RTI and the complaint clearly shows the intention is deceptive and the sole motive is to crumble my opportunity of being re-elected as a member of the Legislative Assembly in the upcoming Assembly election,” Shullai said.
According to the former legislator, they had chosen to unleash a systematic tirade against him to tarnish his image as a respected and reputed member of the Legislative Assembly.
The FIR said the activists’ action is one-sided and ill-motivated and amounts to criminal defamation and is an offence punishable under law.
