Lt.Gen  Gopal R new GOC 3 Corps

GUWAHATI: Lieutenant General Gopal R, SM, takes  over the reins of the prestigious  Spear Corps  (3 Corps)  on Tuesday  which is one of the largest and operationally most active Corps of the Indian Army.  He takes over the  command of Spear Corps from Lieutenant General Anil Chauhan, AVSM, SM, VSM who proceeds on posting to Army Headquarters, New Delhi, a Defence communique informs.

Lieutenant General Gopal R, SM is an Infantry Officer from the  8th Gorkha Rifles of the Indian Army.  He is an alumnus of the Defence Services Staff College, the Higher Command Course as well as the National Defence College.

Lieutenant General Gopal R, has an illustrous career encompassing several command, staff and instructional appointments including those of commanding an Infantry Battalion on the Siachen Glacier, A Mountain Brigade and an Assam Rifles Range in South Assam, besides being one of the founding members of the team which established the Defence Command and Staff College at Botswana. It is thus evident that the General Officer has extensive operational experience including in the North East.
