BJP to name candidates after announcement of polls in Meghalaya

SHILLONG: BJP’s Meghalaya in charge, Nalin Kohli has stated that the party will announce its candidates only after the formal announcement of the   election process in the state.

Speaking to The Shillong Times over the phone from Guwahati, Kohli said that Central Election Committee of the party meets normally after the announcement of the elections and the committee would meet shortly to decide on the candidates.

Prime Minister, Narendra Modi and BJP President, Amit Shah is in the Central Election Committee, adding a broad analysis and various surveys have already been undertaken   with regards to who are the potential candidates in Meghalaya.

Kohli who is in Guwahati will also arrive in Shillong on Thursday to attend meetings.

Responding to a query about the ticket allocation to the four MLAs who joined the party recently, Kohli said that the four MLAs prior to their joining met the Central leadership and their concerns were addressed in that meeting.

It may be mentioned that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold a meeting with BJP chief Amit Shah and the party’s general secretaries on Thursday during which they are expected to take stock of the current political situation.
