SHILLONG: The Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) has released a documentary titled Ki ain ban iada ia ki hok trai Ri (Laws that will protect the rights of the indigenous people) at Shillong Press Club on Wednesday.
General secretary of HYC Robert Kharjahrin said the two-hour documentary focuses on the 14-point demand charter of the organization. The demands include Inner Line Permit (ILP), residential permit, work permit, Prohibition and detection of Benami transaction and border dispute, among others.
“The documentary has been uploaded on YouTube. It will be circulated on WhatsApp and other social networking sites,” he said.
It is part of the Save Hynniewtrep Mission and Campaign against the Congress that was launched last year.
He added that the organisation will also release short videos, which “will educate people to wisely elect their candidates”.
Commenting on the rising tension over influx of immigrants into the state, Kharjahrin said, “Cheap agents of different political parties should not help immigrants in getting EPICs only to increase the vote banks for politicians.”
Stop railway project
Speaking on the resumption of railway work in Byrnihat, Kharjahrin said, “We demand from the state government to stop the railway project if there are no mechanisms to check influx. Railway is the cheapest means of transport which makes it easier for people to come from anywhere in the country and settle down in the state,” he added.
