SHILLONG: Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) state executive member, Anil Singh Roka, appealed to the youth of the state to look for candidates who will develop the constituency and not merely vote for particular  political party in the polls.

Speaking to reporters at the end of National Youth Day programme at RB Anoop Chand School, Police Bazar, Roka said, “In my opinion the youth should look for the person and not for the party. If the candidate is capable and is willing to do everything for the constituency, youth should go for the person rather than the party.”

He observed that the current election scenario is “jumbled up” with nothing fixed as legislators are moving from one party to the other.

Asked on the challenges faced by the youth in the state, Roka said that the youth in the state are not getting the right platform to showcase their talent in fields like sports and business.

He bemoaned that the youth lack support from senior people which will enable them to flourish in respective fields.

He also informed that the ABVP is planning to hold two days conference which will be intimated to the public soon and the point of discussion will be finalised only after the arrival of the state organising secretary.

ABVP has nothing to do with politics

Asked on the voices of dissent against ABVP in some parts of India, Roka said, “We are not in to politics but we are here for the development of the student community.”

He added that the ABVP conducts student development programme like quiz competitions and career guidance programmes

Commenting on the clashes by ABVP activists, he asserted that the activists don’t know about the motto of ABVP which is about knowledge, character and unity.

“But people from outside might relate it with politics that is why we are facing opposition, but we are not into politics,” he remarked.

He added that the ABVP members are being welcomed wherever they go in the state and have enrolled more than 1000 members all across Meghalaya.
