SHILLONG: Congress Mahila chief, Sushmita Dev has termed the desertion of MLAs leaving Congress to join BJP a “clear case of opportunism”.
Talking to media persons here in Shillong, Dev said BJP has used money and muscle power to take away people in their camp in Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh and the same has happened here.
“There are opportunists in every party and it is a clear case of opportunism,” she said.
She said people who left party to join BJP would regret their decision once the real agenda of the saffron party unfolds.
“Most leaders in Assam, including Himanta Biswa Sarma, are regretting but they cannot say openly out of embarrassment. People who leave the party here will have a similar fate,” she told reporters.
On the other hand, Shillong MP, Vincent Pala also criticised Union minister, KJ Alphonse for using central government money for party benefits in the state.
He made the statement with regard to the recent announcement of funds to the tune of Rs 70crore by Alphonse to develop churches here for promoting tourism.
“They want to misuse government money and buy people here but such tactics will not have any impact here,” Pala said.
Echoing similar views, Dev quoted a song “Money can’t buy love” saying, “Giving money to a church is one time thing but security of each and every citizen of the country is a long term thing which BJP cannot do.”
“ABVP activists insisted on performing puja in a Christian institution in Vidisha in Madhya Pradesh and so what is the point for them to give money for repairing churches here,” she said.
