Priest critically injured in road mishap

NONGPOH/SHILLONG: The Rector of Sacred Heart Theological College, Mawlai, Fr James Poonthurithil (63), was critically injured after his vehicle rammed into a stationary truck in Nongpoh on Sunday afternoon.
A spokesperson of the college said the incident took place at 2 pm when the Nano car driven by the priest dashed against a damaged stationary truck on NH-6 at Umsawnongkharai.
Sources said Fr James was supposed to travel to Guwahati.
The reason behind the accident is yet to be ascertained and the police probe is on.
The police along with sisters and fathers of Catholic Church from Nongpoh rushed the injured first to Nongpoh civil hospital and later to NEIGRIHMS. His condition remained critical till late night as he had injuries on the head, eyes and chest.
