SHILLONG: The Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) said it is still in talks with four candidates, two each from East Khasi Hills and Jaintia Hills, while no candidates will be fielded from Garo Hills.
However, working president Adelbert Nongrum, who is also the party’s Assembly candidate from North Shillong, did not divulge the names of the potential candidates.
So far KHNAM has announced four names — Jaiaw MDC Adelbert Nongrum contesting from North Shillong, Ban L Nongbri from Mawlai, Zaachari Shadap from Mawhati and Moses Kharbithai from Mawryngkneng. The party has decided to field 15 candidates. Downplaying the resignation of Bankhraw Kharbuli, who has joined the People’s Democratic Front, Nongrum said he was not a full-time member of the party. Kharbuli was KHNAM’s candidate from Mylliem for the council byelection in 2016.
“He is only a candidate for the byelection and cannot claim that he is a full-fledged member of KHNAM. This is misleading the public,” Nongrum said.
Asked whether other political party members will join KHNAM, Nongrum said supporters of other political parties will extend support to him in North Shillong.
