Silver Jubilee celebrations of Marian Sodality underway

TURA: The Marian Sodality of the Catholic Church under the Tura Diocese has begun a three day convention from Friday as part of its silver jubilee celebrations at the Don Bosco school field in Tura.
Over two thousand delegates of the Sodality from the different corners of Garo Hills began arriving early Friday morning to attend the celebrations which will culminate with a special church service on Sunday.
The Sodality holds its annual convention in different parishes of the Diocese beginning with the Sacred Heart Parish Tura in 1993 and 1994.
The Sodality which began with 150 members has now grown to over six thousand in number. Its members along with the teachings of the church have dedicated their service to the activities of the church and also contribute to the social activities in the community.

Civilians injured in two accidents on Friday
Shillong:  Two people sustained injuries in an unfortunate accident that happened at 7.00am on Friday. 
This accident took place at Shillong ByPass at Umeit in Ri Bhoi District when a truck carrying hay collided head on with another truck which was coming from the opposite direction. 
Kwel Hinge (21) and Manbha sana (23) sustained severe injuries and they were transported to Shillong Civil Hospital by a Bhoirymbong-based 108 ambulance.
In another incident, one Maruti Van was hit by a speeding truck in Jyntru, Ri Bhoi District. The accident happened on Friday morning at 7.40am. June Mary Kharmawplang (51) sustained injuries and was admitted for treatment at Umsning CHC.

Public hearing held on Warsan Lyngdoh issue

NONGSTOIN: After the High court of Meghalaya, Division Bench on November 17 last directed the Meghalaya government to conduct the final public hearing regarding inclusion of 18 villages of Warsan Lyngdoh area in South West Khasi Hills, the Additional Deputy Commissioner, WKH, P. D. Sangma held a public hearing on Friday at Pyndenumjarain playground to give an option whether they want to stay in South West Khasi Hills or to be included in West Khasi Hills.
The Additional Deputy Commissioner, SWKH W.Biam was also present at this public hearing.
The public hearing was chaired by the both the Additional Deputy Commissioners of the twin districts in the presence of officers from different departments of South West Khasi Hills and the people of the area.
More than 2000 people from 18 villages chose to be in West Khasi Hills and only 70 people wanted to be with South West Khasi Hills.    
During the hearing, thousands of people from Warsanlyngdoh area demanded that the area should be included in West Khasi Hills district for the betterment of the people
The district administration will send the report of the public hearing to the government

Nalin says Cong ignored state but change is nigh

SHILLONG: BJP national spokesperson Nalin Kohli reiterated that the Congress had ignored the state but change would come soon.
Asked on whether BJP expects other legislators to join the party, Kohli said many things will be expected in between the elections.
He spoke to reporters at the end of the public meeting at Pamsna ground in Laskein Mowkaiaw constituency organised by BJP Mowkaiaw Mandal.
Speaking at the public meeting, Robinus Syngkon, former MLA of Mookaiaw, said he joined BJP after taking his supporters into confidence.
Syngkon argued that the Congress could not fulfil promises made to the people. A large crowd attended the meeting.

President of NCP women’s wing resigns

SHILLONG: President of NCP’s, state woman’s wing Meristella Wahlang has resigned from her post as well as primary membership from the party due to personal reasons. She has submitted her resignation letter to the president of the party.

HSPDP-UDP public meet

SHILLONG: The HSPDP-UDP Coordination Committee Mawkyrwat Constituency will hold a public meeting at Tynnai market on January 24.
Leaders from both the parties will attend the meeting. Manstudy Nongrem, Langrin MDC will also be inducted into the committee. Nongrem resigned from the Congress recently to join HSPDP.

Man dies of head injury

NONGSTOIN: Kumar Shrista (44), a Nepalese coal labourer who stayed at Dorangre Shallang, died on Friday after falling from a running truck in Dasar near Shallang. Suffering serious head injury, Shrista was brought to Shallang PHC but died. His body was handed over to the family.

One held for raping minor

NONGSTOIN: Police on Friday arrested Jren Kharjana of Ladpnarrim Nongrangoi under Mairang PS on the charge of allegedly raping a four year old minor.
Kharjana committed the crime in one of the forests near his house. A case was registered under the POCSO Act.

One injured
NONGPOH: One vehicle driven by Teiborsius Kharmawphlang crashed against the railings of a bridge at Umsaw-Nongkharai in Ri Bhoi on Thursday. The driver of the vehicle sustained injuries and was taken to CHC in Umsning.

Theft
SHILLONG: Alfred Jyrwa Nongsiej lodged a complaint that on January 17 and 18; unknown miscreants broke into his shop at Dhankheti, Shillong and stole dry fruit products.
On January 17, unknown miscreants broke into the house of Sashajada Omar Hassan at Lower Motinagar, Shillong and stole two laptops.
Nikhilesh Dutta lodged a complaint that on January 10 and 16; a total of Rs. 2, 30,898 had been fraudulently debited from his SBI account.
On January 16, unknown miscreants broke into the rented apartment of the staff of Rajiv Gandhi Indian Institute of Management at Nongthymmai and stole household items.
